Bali – Ubud

Bali was by far our least favorite destination. It started off with a 3 hour immigration line, the longest we experienced anywhere. Then we drove for 2 hours to Ubud, which we chose because it was supposed to have the most history and culture in Bali. Our hotel was lovely and had amazing food and a pool. Otherwise it was a letdown all around.  We went to multiple temples but most were either locked closed or had no explanation, or were covered in trash. The main temple downtown has a Starbucks in the main entryway. There’s a ton of traffic and motorbikes zipping past, with a constantly congested main intersection backed up for hours. Most of the stores sell yoga clothes. We went to the monkey palace and it felt very crowded and commercial. We wanted to leave early and we were only there for two days.

Highlights:

  • I got an amazing massage
  • The vegan food at the hotel was great

Tips

  • go somewhere else in Bali or Indonesia. There are lots of other islands that seem less congested
